It all started in 2023, having dreams of opening a hostel one day, it brought me to Sri Lanka for the first time. Exploring the country, meeting the people and embracing their culture made me instantly fall in love with this place. I realized I might have found the place where I could shape my dream. You don’t get many chances in life, so one year later I decided to go for it. Leave it all behind and go on an adventure.

After another year of forms, searching and a lot of work, Bakamuna was born. Bakamuna means owl in Sinhala, a quiet, mysterious bird that watches the world from a different perspective. The hostel dream shape-shifted into a coliving, where we still value community but with privacy. Bakamuna has now already hosted many travelers from around the world choosing to stay at a meaningful place near Hiriketiya. We would love to welcome you as well in our home.
